"Tuxedo Place (detail)" -Photograph/ Digital Print

Allenıs panoramic photographs are reminiscent of a stage set where there is an anxious, disquieting sense that something has just happened or is about to happen.
More words about Comforts of Home:
"Time has also taken its toll upon the interiors of Allen Bryanıs panoramic color photographs. The images are reminiscent of a stage set where there is an anxious, disquieting sense that something has just happened or is about to happen. Doors remain open, lights are on, but no one is present. Bryan leaves clever hints, but it is up to the viewer to imagine the rest."- Leah Douglas, juror & curator 2007 Artists of the Mohawk/Hudson Region Exhibition at the Albany Airport Gallery.

"Xea"-Steel and Bluestone

Driven by form, I incorporate steel and sometimes mixed-media, such as stone or wood, in a unified shape. I include a lot of raw stock and odd pieces of fram machinery. I enjoy the challenge of maintaining an object's original integrity, which sometimes seems impossible while composing a sophisticated and/or playful composition. I factor in different components such as size and weight, sometimes using asymetry and abstract methods, to convey a shape that would otherwise be awkward to view or experience.
I will demonstrate forging, cutting and welding throughout the day.

"Veronica's Handkerchief" - Acrylic and Eggshells on Canvas

Steve Crohnıs paintings are known for a strong use of color that provides a language for landscape that is subjective, literal and spiritual. Access to the content of the paintings always begins with an emotional reaction from the viewer.
Though often abstract, his paintings evoke a literal feel. New work continues to explore the frame of reference we bring when viewing art, and strives to open us to experience unexplored dimensions and feelings.
They are easy to enjoy in many ways.

"Untitled"- Acrylic

"My current work is playful lyrical paintings incorporating soft-edge geometric forms, lines and circles. In the end, what defines all of my artwork is my love affair with light. I feel that without light there would be no color, no sense of space and no mystery of life. What moves me is simply light, color and the profound beauty of the landscape."

"Tie a Yellow Ribbon"-Acrylic

"This Painting illustrates what I am trying to accomplish as a painter.

It has to do with stuff and speaks of the joy of chucking the non essential out of your life.

The painting began, with this idea. There is a deep yellow ground which was applied as meaning. Then, random color- in no particular shape or sequence. The resulting chaos overtakes the meaning. Then, everything is tied into a unity with a yellow ribbon.

During the studio tour I will be working on a new piece similarly conceived."

"Roses 2" -Digital Photograph

"I attended the prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University where I earned a BS degree in Photography. I also studied photography at the Agfa Gaevert School, Munich, Germany where my work was frequently exhibited in the school's gallery. My work has also been shown at the Denver Art Museum, The Woodstock Artist's Association & Museum and the Varga Gallery, both in Woodstock, New York.
For the past three years I have devoted my non-working hours to the exploration of digital photography as an art form. This work has brought to me the insight that I have the potential of making an unique contribution to contemporary photography. My three decades of work as a commercial photographer when joined with my new found discoveries of photography as an art form create a photographic point of view not shared by many.
I look forward to my continued journey into the photographic art form."

"Petals series" - Stoneware

Steve Frederick & Cherie Jemsek have been making pots since 1973. They currently work in the Arts & Crafts Style inspired by the images popular during the 1890-1910 period in this country and Europe. All work is hand thrown, decorated, fired, glazed and fired again by the artists themselves. Not usually open to the public, their studio is a small, work intensive space set up with a display of their finished work for sale during the tour. They also enjoy sharing the details of their production with interested visitors during this time. Come for the rare opportunity to see their work and workspace.

"Almost There"(detail) -Sugarlift Aquatint Etching

Brunie has expressed herself for over 30 years in the exciting medium of printmaking. She is best known for her Sugarlift Aquatint Etching technique which gives her work a more spontaneous painterly image. The outcome is a beautiful monochromatic work, inspired by the life around her and from nature and the abundance of its vegetation.

"Butterfly Dress" -Batik on Cotton

"The piece on view is a girls jumper dress. This is available in sizes from infant through adult and can be purchased with matching leggings. The dress can be worn layered or not (in any season.) Most children get at least two years wear from the garment and many children get additional use...as their Mom's inform me.
My earlier years were spent making sculpture. I graduated Cooper Union in the fine arts. In the magical organic way that a business unfolds, I was able to take the patterns I had formerly used on my sculptures and paint them in wax on the fabric that began our business."

He has now settled down in Saugerties. In a recently completed workshop, Gus now designs and builds custom and studio furniture. Though he will build in any style, he is currently developing a style being called "Contemporary Rustic." "Lowlands in the Valley" - Oil Painting

"I paint primarily landscape in oil, an impressionist-influenced take on the 'New Hudson River School.'That uniquely American school of art grows out of an optimistic vision of nature as beneficent and the land a sacred gift. I love to paint views of our mountains and rivers, clouds and woodland streams, sometimes with buildings and people but with nature as the focus of interest. From study with master Hong-Nian Zhang at the Woodstock School of Art, I am also influenced by Impressionism. My work is in the permanent collection of Whistler House Museum of Art, which also has art by Whistler, Sargent, et al.In keeping with my ideas of what is beautiful and life-affirming, I paint in a studio in the woods on the lower slopes of Overlook Mountain between Saugerties and Woodstock."

"Purple Cape" -Computer Image

"I fell in love with the computer as a tool for making art, strangely enough, not because of its technological wizardry, but because of the way the mouse felt in my hand, and the way color and shape took form under my hand using that mouse. So I use the least technologically advanced program, Microsoft Paint, and do little or no adjusting, editing, or manipulating."

"Air" -Welded Steel

"In my work, I attempt to stay as spontaneous as possible while leaving very little to chance. Direct metal (i.e. welding & forging) is the technique that allows me this freedom. Natural forms, including the human figure in dance, are my main concerns.
The quest is not to emulate a particular form, but to reach for the essence in'perfect' (or not so perfect) spatial relationships.
Although the work may appear 'rough hewn' there is an almost religious need to stay true to its language. A language that has been developed over a lifetime, first in painting and now in sculpture."

"Vase" -Cut-paper Collage

"My recent collage and multimedia work continues to explore color and form. I often transform materials that we would otherwise overlook by putting them in a new context, and have created original series of work based on specific visual and conceptual challenges. My work is inspired by an eclectic list of artistic "gurus," including Matisse, Stuart Davis, Marcel Duchamp, the ancient Cycladic sculptors, Ray Johnson, Pia Alexander and the designer Josef Frank. I graduated from Barnard with a degree in art history, and studied painting at the Art Students League, and at Parson's with Jacob Lawrence. My life as an educational psychologist-writer influences my ways of seeing, and I integrate a playful and experimental perspective into my art. My work has been exhibited locally at the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum, the Kleinert, The Arts Upstairs in Phoenicia and is in some private collections."

"Apple Tree in High Woods" - Oil

Raymond J. Steiner's landscape oil paintings are of primarily the Hudson Valley and are reminiscent of the Hudson Valley School of Painting. He paints on site, alla prima, and, in an effort to capture spontaneous impression, he confines himself almost exclusively to the use of the palette knife. Mr. Steiner is also the editor of ART TIMES a literary journal he co-founded in 1984 and the author of The Mountain a novel that tells the story of Jake Forscher born in 1894, and his development as a self-taught landscape painter. Set mainly in the burgeoning art colony of Woodstock, New York, during the early 1900ıs The Mountain offers an historical look backward at New York City, with emphases on the history and lore of the Catskill Mountain Region and the Hudson River Valley.

"Talk To Me" -Mixed Media

"I work in collage, painting, drawing, and illustration.
The visual details of the everyday world interweave with memories and fears, daydreams and nightmares, ideas and words. Imagination is superimposed on the concrete world, resulting sometimes in delight, sometimes in horror or humor. Connections and stories rise as I work, and I choose the material that feels right: oils, pencils, wax, clay, rust, pixels. I try to let the result surprise me and tell me something I didn't know before."

"Callisto Dancing Her Dream" -Bronze

"My inspiration comes from studying the nature around us. The intricate structure of leaf, the robustness of grass, wind blowing through an open window or the moon reflecting on the water, all create the logical harmony of nature's "building blocks." Nature is pure, clean, and precious in its own creation.
Bronze, the material used by sculptors for thousands of years, is my preferred medium. I also work with stainless steel, that beautiful contemporary metal."
